Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets

Wagashi include many different types of sweets like Mochi (rice cakes), backed pastries like Manju, jelly confections like Yokan or sugar candies, and much more. Traditional Wagashi are made from only natural plant ingredients and are intended to be served with green tea.

Okashi, Japanese sweets

Western style sweets in Japan are called Yōgashi, this kind of desserts and cakes are rather different, often they use japanese ingredients like rice flour or green tea.  Japanese pastry chefs are very creative and love to change original French or Italian pastries and to create something new and special. These sweets are more refined as our often heavy cakes: small, not too sweet, with deep taste and a wonderful appearance. With their balanced sweetness, they are also the perfect companion to a cup of green tea.
